Smores!

Today you need to turn in your water lab with the graph for a grade.

We will be making smores to illustrate dehydration synthesis. This will help us practice memorizing the monomers and polymers.

While we eat, you will fill out a comparison chart.
Then, for extra practice, we will work on a fill in the blank review over everything we have learned in biochemistry. This sheet is homework to be checked in tomorrow.

Warm-Up
what is the result of hydrolysis of a protein?

****TEST NEXT TUESDAY****

Nucleic Acids

We are finishing up the notes on nucleic acids today. The same note packet we have been using.
Then we will finish collecting data for the % water lab.
As a class, we will answer the analysis questions and create a graph.

The graph and questions are due tomorrow. You will turn them in.

Remember to continue working on the objectives due Friday for homework.

Warm-Up
what elements are found in lipids?
What elements are found in proteins?

Monday, September 26, 2011

Lipids and proteins

I am checking in your illustration of dehydration synthesis and hydrolysis today for homework credit.

We will collect more data for our % water lab.
Then we are working on the lipid and protein sections in our note packet.

Your assignment (due Friday) is to answer each of the objective questions.

Warm-Up
What 3 elements make up all carbohydrates?

Friday, September 23, 2011

Dehydration Synthesis and hydrolysis

We will continue to fill in the notes we began yesterday (see Thursday's post)

Today we will focus on dehydration synthesis and hydrolysis.

You need to think of an analogy for each and sketch or describe it on a piece of paper.

Due today: french fry article questions (turn in), introduction biology test remediation (turn in), daily warm-ups for the week (turn in), and the chemistry vocabulary (I will check in for homework)

Warm-Up:
Why is carbon such a great element for organic macromolecules? (think of the shapes and bonds it forms)

Chemicals of life

We are beginning the chemical basis of life notes.

power point chemical basis of life

we are also beginning the occurrence of water in living things lab.
You will need to save this lab sheet as we will be revisiting it daily as we chart the data we collect as a class.

Our focus today is on carbohydrates.

warm-up:
list the 6 most common elements in living things

Intro Unit Test Remediation

We are working on our first test remediation.
you will need to get one from me along with your scantron from the test.

This is due, turned in, on Friday.

You may choose to sign up for a retest during summit Thursday or Friday.
You may also choose to verbally test during class today to earn back your missed points.

Then you need to complete the vocabulary on the bottom of the Chemicals of Life Vocab and Objectives sheet.
This must be done by Friday as well.

And a reminder, the french fry article questions are also due Friday. Whew! busy week.
Please stay on top of your work. Don't wait until Thursday night to complete this stuff.

This way, at the end of the semester, the exam won't be as stressful for you. Also, it provides me with some information about what topics you already know and which areas we will need to focus on.

When you finish, youCheck Spelling need to pick up an intro unit biology objectives and vocabulary sheet.
The vocabulary need to be defined by Monday.

I appreciate all your hard work this week.
